How Dental Care Has Developed Through The Years

Nowadays we go to dentists even for the small things. But do you know that there was a time when people were afraid to go to a dentist? Dentistry was could be considered barbaric compared to today and dentists did not have the same level of knowledge or training. Tooth extraction and other methods were very painful.
In the 1800s there was a huge change in the field of dentistry. The dentist’s reclining chair was introduced which made it easier for dentists. Application of anesthesia first began during this time as well; as anesthetic cocaine was used. Still, people were reluctant to visit the dentists during those times unless they had to.
Over the years the anesthetic improved and more people started to understand that going to the dentist was not that painful after all. There was a huge improvement in oral hygiene during the 1900s. People perceived the importance of brushing their teeth regularly.
Toothbrush and toothpaste also started improving; fluoride was introduced in toothpaste which turned out to be very helpful in preventing cavities and tooth decay. The bristles of toothbrush improved, making it easy for people to brush teeth regularly.
Fillings and other teeth remedies improved in quality. Toothpicks and other dental tools were introduced. There was also a growth in the number of dental schools all over the world; as a result, people started going to knowledgeable dentists instead of the street dentists. Later dentists started using computers and electronic machines for dental treatment.
Today the dental treatment is much sophisticated. Going to the dentist has become more painless. You can also improve your teeth in many ways which were not possible before except tooth extraction and a few other ways.
